1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how LingoSprout (“we,” “us,” or “the app”) handles information when children and their families use the LingoSprout vocabulary app or visit https://lingosprout.app. LingoSprout is designed for children ages 2 and up and follows a collect-as-little-as-possible approach.
2. Information in the app
LingoSprout does not require an account. Child profiles, language choices, settings, learning progress, stars, badges, streak information, and daily time spent in the app are stored locally on the device. We do not receive this learning information, and it is not used to identify a child.
A parent may add a nickname or choose an avatar for a local profile. This information stays on the device unless a grown-up chooses to send it — either by including it when contacting support, or by saving a progress file of their own, described in section 5.
3. What we do not collect
- No child accounts or required registration
- No advertising identifiers or behavioral advertising
- No analytics or tracking SDKs in the child experience
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data
- No social profiles, chat, or public sharing
- No sale or rental of personal information
4. Offline use and network activity
Core learning, play, practice, rewards, and progress features are offline-first. The app intentionally uses a network connection only when a grown-up starts or restores an in-app purchase. Those transactions are processed by Apple or Google and supported by RevenueCat, our purchase entitlement provider.
Apple, Google, and RevenueCat may process transaction identifiers, product information, purchase status, device platform, and limited technical data needed to complete or restore a purchase. We do not receive payment card details. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies.
5. Device backups and progress files
The app itself never uploads a child’s progress. A copy can leave the phone in two ways only: through the device’s own backup system, which we treat differently on each platform, or because a grown-up deliberately saved a progress file.
On Android, the app opts out of device backup. Android would otherwise include an app’s files in Auto Backup and in a phone-to-phone transfer by default. LingoSprout switches both off, so learning progress, the optional parent PIN and the record of a Premium unlock stay on the phone — not even in the parent’s own Google account. The trade-off was deliberate: progress does not follow a child to a new phone by itself, because we would rather a grown-up chose to move it than have it uploaded silently. Since version 2.0 that choice exists, and it is the progress file described below.
On iOS, a device backup is the parent’s own. If a parent has iPhone backup switched on, it includes this app’s data along with every other app’s, encrypted under their Apple account. That backup belongs to them, not to us: we cannot read it and we receive nothing from it. A parent who would rather LingoSprout were excluded can turn off backup for the app in iOS settings.
A progress file is the parent’s to make and to keep. In Parent Area → Data & privacy, a grown-up can save their children’s progress to a file and open it later on another phone. The file holds profiles, nicknames, chosen avatars, words learned, stars, streaks and badges. It never holds the parent PIN and it never holds the Premium purchase. Saving and restoring both sit behind the grown-up gate, so a child cannot reach either.
Where that file goes is the parent’s choice alone — their own Files app, their own email, AirDrop to their own device. The app hands it to the system share sheet and does nothing further: it does not upload it, we never receive it, and we cannot see where it was sent. Once it leaves the app it is an ordinary file in the parent’s keeping, and worth treating like any other document that names their children.
6. Parent Area and purchases
Sensitive settings and purchase actions are kept behind a grown-up gate or PIN. Children do not see purchase calls to action. Locked content shows a small lock, and tapping it opens the grown-up challenge instead of a purchase screen.
7. Support messages
If a parent or caregiver emails us, we receive the email address and information they choose to provide. We use it only to answer the request, troubleshoot the issue, protect the service, and meet legal obligations. Please do not send sensitive information about a child.
8. Website information
This marketing website does not use advertising trackers. Our hosting provider may process ordinary technical logs—such as IP address, browser type, requested page, and time of request—to deliver and secure the site. We do not use those logs to profile children or serve ads.
9. Retention and deletion
App progress remains on the device until a grown-up deletes a profile, clears app data, or removes the app. Support emails are retained only as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request and maintain necessary business or legal records.
10. Children’s privacy
LingoSprout is intentionally designed to avoid collecting personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through a support message, contact us and we will review and delete it where required.
11. Security and international use
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards for information we handle. No system can promise absolute security. Our service may be used internationally, and support information may be processed where our service providers operate, subject to appropriate legal protections.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product or law changes. We will post the new date here and provide additional notice when a material change requires it. We will not quietly turn a privacy-friendly child experience into an advertising or tracking product.
