Look for pre-reader design
A young child should not need to read instructions before learning a word. Large pictures, spoken guidance, consistent icons, and generous tap areas make an app easier to understand independently.
Text can support a grown-up nearby, but audio and visual cues should carry the child’s path.
Check what happens after a wrong answer
Try a quiz and choose the wrong picture. Does the app punish, buzz, or rush? A helpful app treats mistakes as another look and keeps the child comfortable enough to continue.
Also check whether rewards encourage returning without making a missed day feel like something was lost.
Read the parent promises
Look for clear answers about advertising, accounts, tracking, offline use, purchases, and deleting local profiles. Parent controls should sit behind a grown-up gate, while purchase prompts should stay out of the child experience.
Finally, make sure pricing is understandable. A generous free experience and a clearly described one-time option can be easier for families to evaluate than an urgent subscription screen.
